Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the variation of word writing and challenging behavior by applying visual imagery program for consonant auditory stimulus to autistic student who has difficulty in reading and writing Hangul since the grapheme-phoneme correspondence relationship has not developed. The following 4 variables of student's behavior were measured to explore variation of writing by AB design; 1) the frequency of auditory stimuli, 2) the frequency of visual reconfirm of consonants, 3) the time taken to write per consonant, and 4) the frequency of challenging behavior during writing. As a result, all of the dependent variables showed a gradual decrease below the baseline level in the mediation interval and maintained at a lower level in the maintenance section. These results suggest that visual imagery can guide clues and intentions for auditory processing of autistic student, and can help to associate visual and auditory stimuli by creating a representation with mental practice and performance.
